What is Ovakron?

Ovakron is a veterinary intravaginal sponge containing flugestone acetate, used by farmers and veterinarians across South Africa to bring ewes into oestrus at the same time. Synchronising the cycle shortens the lambing season, simplifies management, and makes scheduled mating or artificial insemination possible.

Synchronisation protocol

A typical Ovakron programme, to be followed under veterinary supervision.

Day 0

Insert Ovakron sponges

Sponges are inserted intravaginally to begin synchronisation of the oestrus cycle.
Day 14

Withdraw sponges & inject PMSG

Sponges are withdrawn and PMSG is injected intramuscularly, according to veterinary instructions.
Day 16

Mating / insemination

Ewes are mated or inseminated 48–56 hours after sponge withdrawal, according to veterinary instructions.

Always administer under the guidance of a registered veterinarian.
